About personalized nutrition

Measurement is the largest cluster on Halo: SNP genotyping from saliva, urinary metabolite panels, hormone tracking across a cycle. Behind it sit the appetite and glucose formulations that act on the result, and a small set of printers and robots that make a single person's dose. On Halo it spans six groups, including testing the individual, appetite and glucose response, and postbiotics and the gut microbiome.

Stage of development. Work on personalized nutrition on Halo is split between university programs and companies. 42% of the solutions are in market. Co-development and sponsored research are the usual partnering routes, and about 46% of the solutions that state terms offer pilot engagements.

Three trends in personalized nutrition on Halo

The test is consumer-grade, or it is nothing. Three separate entries genotype SNPs from saliva, each claiming low cost and a decentralized setting: shaken digital LAMP at home, isothermal amplification, an oligonucleotide ligation assay. A fourth reads diet off urinary metabolites and a fifth tracks hormones across a whole cycle. Personalization stops at whatever a person will actually do at home.

Appetite approached as a receptor problem. Six entries act on appetite, and most name the mechanism. One raises GLP-1 response from a frozen product, one releases oil late enough to trigger the ileal brake, one delivers short-chain fatty acids to the colonic L-cells that release GLP-1 and PYY. The pharmacology of the injectables has set what a food ingredient is now expected to explain.

Manufacturing one dose at a time. Four entries make a single person's product: binder jetting for vitamins and minerals, capsule printing under cGMP, robotic blending from a digital recipe, and sub-milligram dosing control for solid ingredients. None of them is a formulation. Personalization only reaches the shelf if something can produce a batch of one.

Frequently asked questions

What is personalized nutrition?

Personalized nutrition covers measuring one person and feeding them accordingly. It spans genotyping and biomarker tests built for consumer settings, the manufacturing that produces a single person's dose, formulations aimed at appetite and glucose response, postbiotic and gut microbiome work, nutrition designed around a life stage such as pregnancy or old age, and the delivery design behind a bioactive. Supplement brands, food companies and clinical nutrition teams are the buyers.
