VRL K9 smart harness & alpha collar

The VRL K9 Smart Harness & Alpha Collar is the first closed-loop, predictive autonomic recovery system for tactical and working dogs. While current K9 wearables are strictly passive monitors, our ecosystem actively intervenes. We engineered a biometric sensor/actuator puck (the "Alpha Module") that tracks Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) while physically guiding the canine's nervous system out of high-arousal stress states back to an optimal baseline.

​Methodology & How It Works: Powered by our proprietary machine-learning dictionary, Echo AI, the hardware continuously maps the canine’s Autonomic Recovery Rate Constant (ARC). When a sympathetic nervous system spike is detected, the Alpha Module triggers physical actuations built into the harness. This includes programmable thermal cooling and Deep Touch Pressure (DTP) utilizing shape-memory tension cables. This applies rhythmic compression that mimics a handler’s breathing, leveraging classical conditioning to force parasympathetic regulation (the "vagal brake") without the handler present. ​Proof to Date: Vector Research Labs (SDVOSB; CAGE 1AMZ0) is currently in Technical Review with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for human autonomic adaptation. We are transitioning this interspecies architecture for a May 2026 DARPA BARK submission. Our validation pipeline is anchored by an institutional partnership with Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) for clinical cohort data processing and student-led engineering.

​Next Steps: We are seeking $250k in sponsored research to finalize the tension-actuator hardware prototypes and the Echo AI API bridge. We are actively looking to license the Alpha Module puck and True Blue software API to established K9 tactical gear and consumer harness manufacturers.
