Introducing a 3D visual target designed for efficient fly control. This stand-alone device, with a tubular structure and insecticide-treated surfaces, enhances fly landing rate, improving pest management in various environments.

Overview

The stand-alone 3D visual target offers an innovative approach to fly control by presenting a tubular structure with distinct surface treatments. This device is designed to attract flies by maintaining a consistent optical flow over a range of flight elevations, encouraging the flies to land on its adhesive-treated or insecticide-treated surface. The device induces a significant increase in the fly landing rate, addressing inefficiencies of previous fly-control solutions in agricultural, urban, domestic and recreational settings.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Stand-alone tubular structure: Vertical orientation with a colored exterior and low-reflectivity interior.
  • Surface treatments: Adhesive or insecticide coating to enhance pest control efficiency.
  • Adaptability: Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use with customizable size and treatment options.
  • Freely accessible: Designed to be approachable by flies, permitting landing from a range of angles.
Technology readiness level

This technology is at TRL 6, indicating that prototype devices are available for testing and further development. Future development includes licensing or material transfer opportunities.
