University

A customizable platform using phage display antibody libraries to develop recombinant monoclonal antibodies targeting specific allergens. Offering high specificity and affinity, this technology is ideal for accurate allergen diagnosis.

Overview

The recombinant monoclonal anti-allergen antibody platform leverages advanced phage display antibody libraries for the development of antibodies targeting specific allergens. This solution offers a customizable approach, enabling the isolation and production of recombinant antibodies with high specificity and affinity. This capability is crucial for accurate allergen diagnosis and potential therapeutic applications.

Technical specifications
  • Utilizes naive scFv and synthetic VH domain antibody libraries developed in-house
  • High-diversity libraries enhance the likelihood of identifying antibodies for complex or low-abundance allergenic epitopes
  • Optimized panning process for allergen identification and selection
  • Post-panning refinement includes biotinylation for easy attachment to Streptavidin-gold nanoparticles, facilitating lateral flow applications
  • Antibodies can be further modified to meet specific platform requirements
Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 2, the platform has been validated in principle, with readiness for collaboration to screen and identify antibodies targeting specific allergens. Further development and validation will be conducted in partnership with interested companies.

About Universiti Sains Malaysia

Universiti Sains Malaysia is a comprehensive public research university with a multi‑campus footprint anchored in Penang, plus an engineering campus in Nibong Tebal and a health campus in Kelantan. Its base beside Penang’s Bayan Lepas industrial zone and on‑site microelectronics design facilities connect directly to the region’s electronics supply chain, enabling co‑located work and talent pipelines. Integration with the USM Specialist Hospital supports clinical research, trials, and translation. Research is backed by competitive national funding from the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, coordinated through a central research office. Technology transfer is supported by a Centre for Innovation & Consultation and the university’s corporate arm, USAINS Holdings, which channels testing and consultancy to industry.
