POP Biotechnologies introduces a novel vaccine platform using SNAP technology to enhance immune responses against HPAI in poultry. The recombinant, liposome-displayed H5 vaccine aims to provide robust protection with dose-sparing potential, validated in mice and pilot chicken studies.

Overview

POP Biotechnologies has developed an innovative vaccine platform, the spontaneous nanoliposome antigen particle (SNAP), designed to enhance immune responses in poultry against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). This technology converts soluble, recombinant hemagglutinin (HA) proteins into a liposome-displayed format, significantly improving both cellular and humoral immunity. The SNAP platform demonstrated 100% protective immune responses in mice against H5N1 and has shown high immunogenicity in pilot studies with chickens. This next-generation vaccine aims to be administered in ovo to ensure early protection.

Technical specifications
  • SNAP Platform: Converts recombinant HA proteins into a liposome-displayed format
  • Immunization Routes: In ovo and spray immunization for poultry
  • Adjuvants: Incorporates potent CoPoP O-W emulsion, PHAD, and saponin to enhance immune response
  • Dose Sparing: Demonstrates potential for extreme dose reduction, utilizing nanogram-level antigen and adjuvant dosing
  • Antigen Constructs: Rapid production and purification using stable CHO pool approach
  • Evaluation Parameters: Immunogenicity, adjuvant effect, antigen density, antibody durability, and safety
Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, this vaccine platform has undergone successful proof-of-concept studies in mice and pilot studies in chickens. Further validation is planned to optimize in ovo vaccination parameters and assess long-term protection and safety.

About POP Biotechnologies

POP Biotechnologies, Inc. is a Buffalo-based biotechnology company that develops nanoparticle-based vaccines and therapeutics using its proprietary porphyrin-phospholipid (PoP) liposome technology. Its core platform, Spontaneous Nanoliposome Antigen Particleization (SNAP), is a plug-and-play system that allows for the rapid, stable display of protein and peptide antigens on liposomes. By leveraging a cobalt-modified variant of this technology, known as CoPoP, the company can streamline protein purification and enhance immune responses, making it well-suited for the rapid development of vaccines against emerging pathogens and cancer immunotherapies.

The company's technology has been clinically validated, most notably through the Phase 3 clinical trials of the EuCorVac-19 COVID-19 vaccine. POP Biotechnologies partners with academic and industry collaborators to advance its pipeline, which includes candidates for infectious diseases such as influenza, RSV, and Shingles, as well as immunotherapy applications for oncology and Alzheimer’s disease. Supported by federal grants and collaborations with organizations like CEPI, the company aims to improve vaccine manufacturing efficiency and vaccine accessibility, providing versatile solutions that can be quickly adapted for pandemic preparedness and targeted treatment needs.
