University

A novel approach combining Small angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) and 29Si-NMR spectroscopy to monitor and quantify the oligomerization and hydrolysis of organo-trialkoxysilanes, providing comprehensive insights into reaction dynamics and structural changes.

Overview

This innovative solution provides a comprehensive approach to studying the oligomerization of organo-trialkoxysilanes. By integrating Small angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) with solution-state 29Si-NMR spectroscopy, researchers can monitor both the initial hydrolysis stages and the subsequent growth of oligomers. This dual-method approach offers a complete view of the reaction dynamics, from early monomer formation to larger oligomer structures, thereby enabling precise control and characterization of these processes.

Technical specifications
  • 29Si-NMR: Effective for characterizing initial stages of oligomerization, identifying monomer peaks, and tracking early growth.
  • SAXS: Provides crucial insights into the size, shape, and structural changes of larger oligomers, especially as cluster sizes increase and NMR effectiveness diminishes.
  • Calibration and Validation: Includes a phased approach to develop calibration curves and validate the method with controlled experiments and blind sample testing.
Technology readiness level

This technology is at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated in a laboratory setting with plans for further calibration and validation phases to ensure readiness for industrial application.
