Tastee Tape presents a PFAS-free, biodegradable grain-based polysaccharide coating for paper substrates, offering moisture and grease barriers while ensuring recyclability and compostability. This sustainable solution supports repulpability and eliminates petroleum dependency.
Tastee Tape introduces a groundbreaking PFAS-free barrier coating designed for paper substrates, utilizing plant-derived polysaccharides. This innovative solution provides moisture and grease resistance without relying on harmful fluorinated or petroleum-based chemicals. By employing a dense cross-linked biopolymer network, the coating achieves a water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of less than 1 g/m²/day while maintaining environmental sustainability. The coating is spray-applied using standard industrial equipment, ensuring easy integration into existing manufacturing processes. Additionally, it is completely biodegradable within 90 days, enhancing eco-friendliness and supporting sustainable product development.
This technology is at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated in a laboratory setting. Future validation includes a 12-month plan with phases focused on formulation optimization, barrier performance, and full validation for repulpability and compostability. The primary challenge is achieving the target WVTR, which is being addressed through parallel development pathways.
Tastee Tape is a company focused on developing sustainable, edible, biodegradable food packaging solutions to reduce plastic waste and environmental impact.
