Next-generation nanostructured silver antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory platform technology
FeynMed Solutions has a patented antimicrobial (antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral) & anti-inflammatory poly-nanocrystalline silver thin film platform technology. As a thin film coating, the technology can be used as an advanced wound care product, or can be coated onto medical devices to prevent contamination/adherence. The active agents can also be extracted & delivered in aqueous solutions, including: -nebulization solutions for treatment of lung conditions including pneumonias, including those caused by AMR bacteria and viruses such as RSV, COVID-19, and influenza. This solution could also be used against chronic conditions such as COPD and cystic fibrosis, or acute conditions such as ARDS, ALI, TEN, or septic shock -eyedrops for treatment of eye injuries/infections (e.g., conjunctivitis) -irrigants for nasal/sinus infection/inflammation -instillates for treatment/prevention of CAUTIs -prophylactics to prevent adhesions and surgical site infections after open abdominal surgery
The innovation works by releasing Ag+, 2-6 atom clusters of metallic Ag, and a higher oxidation state (HOS) Ag. The Ag+ and HOS Ag provide antimicrobial activity with additional mechanisms of action compared to Ag+ alone, more rapid kill, stability in the presence of bodily fluids, and low AMR pressure. They are also effective on AMR resistant microbes. The clusters provide anti-inflammatory activity via modulation of the local immune response and suppression of inflammatory cytokines.
Next steps include: Preparation/expansion of the pilot facility to support commercialization, gaining ISO 8 level cleanliness, determining an appropriate product sterilization method, establishing a fully functional LIMS and QMS, and pre-clinical testing needed for regulatory submission of the advanced wound care product (in vitro antimicrobial, biocompatibility, efficacy and stability testing). Validation work to determine tuneability of solutions for specific applications will occur in parallel.
