Company

A cutting-edge microfluidic nanopore platform offering amplification-free detection of molecular biomarkers for seed health, adaptable for various targets. This technology enhances RNA detection without false positives, aiding in seed viability assessments.

Overview

The microfluidic nanopore platform developed by Fluxus Technologies represents a breakthrough in high-sensitivity testing for seed health. Utilizing a novel Trapping-Assisted Capture Rate Enhancement (TACRE) principle, this platform allows for amplification-free and label-free detection of single molecular biomarkers at attomolar concentrations. The platform's versatility enables its adaptation to various targets, making it a powerful tool for assessing seed viability by detecting viral RNA, such as TMV, in seeds.

Technical specifications

The platform operates through a two-step process. Initially, specific targets are extracted onto functionalized microbeads. These beads are then trapped under a nanopore within a microfluidic channel. As targets are released from the beads, they are captured and detected as they pass through the nanopore. This method ensures accurate detection without amplification, reducing the risk of false positives. The system has demonstrated effectiveness in detecting viral RNA from Zika and SARS-CoV-2, with potential applications expanded to TMV in seed samples.

Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 3, this platform has undergone initial proof-of-concept testing. Future plans involve a two-year validation process to refine the technology for commercial application, focusing on developing specific assays for TMV and optimizing RNA extraction protocols. This comprehensive validation will enhance the platform's readiness for widespread use in agricultural health diagnostics.
