A cost-effective imaging system utilizing AI and 3D reconstruction techniques to enhance greenhouse monitoring, enabling data-driven decisions and sustainable practices.
The proposed solution is a low-cost imaging and monitoring system for greenhouses designed to provide real-time, remote monitoring of plant health and environmental conditions. By integrating low-resolution cameras, AI-driven analysis, and 3D reconstruction techniques, this system delivers comprehensive digital insights to optimize greenhouse management. The system supports sustainable agricultural practices by enabling precise, data-driven decisions and prioritizing areas that require immediate attention.
Currently at TRL 3, the system is in the development and prototyping phase. A two-phase validation plan is in place: Phase 1 focuses on R&D and prototype development, while Phase 2 involves pilot deployments in greenhouses to refine the system and ensure compliance with privacy and security standards.
Fraunhofer USA is an independent, non-profit applied R&D organization with a network of centers across the United States, backed by the global Fraunhofer network. Many facilities are co-located on research university campuses and in manufacturing regions, enabling access to shared equipment, specialized labs, and talent close to supply chains. Its contract research model emphasizes rapid scoping, prototyping, pilot-scale demonstration, and validation in industry-relevant settings, giving partners a low-risk path from concept to implementation. Research is supported by industry sponsorships and competitive federal and state funding from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Defense, with industry-friendly IP terms and licensing to streamline collaboration.
