Liquid additive solution for color enhancement in rpet production
A liquid dispersion additive designed to enhance the color of recycled PET by reducing yellowness and increasing brightness, thereby minimizing the need for additional toners. The solution is ready for near-commercial deployment with successful lab and pilot testing.
Overview
Avient presents a liquid additive solution specifically formulated to enhance the color quality of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET). This innovative liquid dispersion additive targets the extrusion process of rPET manufacturing, aiming to substantially reduce the b* value, which measures yellowness, while increasing the L* value, indicating brightness. By achieving these improvements, the additive effectively diminishes the greyness of rPET and decreases the dependency on toners that often lead to darkening of the product.
Technical specifications
- Color Enhancement: Reduces b* (yellowness) by 10-20% and increases L* (brightness).
- Application: Integrates into the extrusion process for rPET manufacturing.
- Benefits: Lessens the requirement for toner additives, thereby maintaining or enhancing brightness without additional darkening effects.
- Support: Avient provides product samples for trials and offers technical guidance and analysis during the implementation phase.
Technology readiness level
This liquid additive solution has achieved a Technology Readiness Level of 8, indicating that it has been successfully tested in both laboratory and pilot settings. Further validation is ongoing with additional customer trials to ensure robust performance across various applications.
