University

Laminomics offers an innovative approach to treating LMNA-related cardiomyopathy by targeting altered kinome pathways. Using cutting-edge mechanobiology techniques, this solution aims to improve cardiac function through kinase modulation.

Overview

Laminomics presents a groundbreaking approach to addressing LMNA-related cardiomyopathy by focusing on the kinome's role in mechanosignaling pathways. By modulating kinase activity, this research aims to enhance force transduction and improve mechanoresponse in cardiac tissues. The approach leverages advanced mechanobiology techniques to alter kinase-dependent mechanosensitive pathways, potentially reducing apoptosis and improving cellular responses in LMNA-mutated cells.

Technical specifications
  • Kinase Modulation: Involves inhibiting or activating specific kinases to alter mechanosensitive pathways.
  • High-throughput Techniques: Utilizes high-end stretching experiments and nano-indentation to measure nuclear stiffness.
  • Biological Read-outs: Analyzes apoptosis, proliferation, migration, and strain avoidance to tweak cellular responses.
  • Validation Tools: Employs a vast LMNA biobank with iPSC lines and engineered heart tissue for comprehensive testing.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 4, this solution has been validated in controlled environments. Future plans include advancing to TRL 5/6 through partnerships for compound testing, focusing on kinase inhibitors and activators, and further research funding.

About Maastricht University

Maastricht University is a comprehensive public research university with a distinctly international outlook, located in the heart of the Meuse‑Rhine cross‑border region. Its formal integration with the Maastricht UMC+ academic medical center enables seamless clinical collaboration and translation for industry partners. UM is a founding partner of the Brightlands campuses—regional research and technology parks that co‑locate university labs, startups, corporates, and shared facilities—linking Maastricht to the Chemelot industrial site and to neighboring ecosystems in Aachen, Eindhoven, and Hasselt. Research is supported by competitive European and Dutch funding, including programmes of the European Commission and the Dutch Research Council (NWO). A dedicated Knowledge Transfer Office supports IP strategy, licensing, and venture creation for collaborations with companies.
