Inline sensing for continuous industrial processes

Technology
Conceptual
Company

Moldsonics develops inline ultrasound systems for industrial processes involving flowing media, melts and continuous material streams.

We develop both the sensing systems and the ultrasonic sensor hardware in-house, enabling robust integration into demanding industrial production environments.

Our portfolio includes compact high-temperature ultrasonic sensors with operating temperatures up to 350 °C and form factors as small as 10 mm diameter × 9 mm height, designed for integration into space-constrained industrial systems.

Our focus is direct physical sensing inside operating production environments to detect process states, material changes and abnormal conditions during operation.

Depending on the application, ultrasound transmission behavior can be used to derive process-relevant information such as: – material condition changes – flow irregularities – viscosity-related behavior – curing and solidification effects – contamination or disturbance events – process instabilities in continuous production

Current focus areas include: – plastics and polymer processing – extrusion and continuous production – elastomer and thermoset systems – selected food and process-industry applications

The systems are designed for industrial deployment: – inline operation during production – retrofit capable – suitable for automated industrial systems – robust for harsh industrial environments

We are looking for industrial partners and OEMs interested in scalable inline sensing applications for continuous and flow-based production processes.

About Moldsonics

Moldsonics is an Austrian technology company specializing in ultrasonic sensor solutions for the plastics processing and injection molding industries. Founded in 2021 as a spin-off based on over a decade of research, the company develops hardware and software designed to provide real-time, high-precision measurement of physical state changes within the molding tool. By replacing assumptions with measurable data—such as flow front detection and cooling end-points—the technology allows manufacturers to optimize process stability, detect quality deviations, and monitor wear in production equipment.

These sensors provide manufacturers with actionable insights that help transition toward more transparent, digital, and climate-neutral production environments. By integrating directly into industrial processes, Moldsonics enables 24/7 monitoring and early anomaly detection, which helps reduce scrap rates and improve overall cycle reliability. The company collaborates with industry partners to implement its technology and has received multiple awards for its contributions to advancing manufacturing innovation and successfully transferring scientific research into industrial applications.
