A cutting-edge in-line multimodal imaging system integrating hyperspectral, thermal, visual, and ultrasound modalities for comprehensive ice cream quality monitoring. It detects composition, temperature distribution, foreign objects, and surface and internal structures.

Overview

This innovative in-line multimodal imaging system is designed to revolutionize the quality monitoring of ice cream during production. By integrating hyperspectral, thermal, visual, and ultrasound imaging modalities, the system provides a comprehensive analysis of ice cream quality parameters. It enables the detection of composition factors like fat, sugar, and moisture, analyzes temperature distribution, identifies foreign objects, and assesses surface and internal structural features such as air pockets and inclusions. This advanced solution promises to enhance product quality and safety in ice cream manufacturing.

Technical specifications

The system features a hyperspectral camera with a visible and NIR range of 400nm to 1000nm, capturing detailed spatial and spectral data to reveal chemical and physical properties. A thermal camera detects infrared radiation, creating a visual temperature map for precise temperature monitoring. The ultrasound imaging subsystem uses high-frequency sound pulses, ranging from 1 to 20MHz, to traverse the product and reflect off internal structures. The integrated system includes a GUI for control, visualization, and data logging, ensuring ease of operation and comprehensive data management.

Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 5, the multimodal imaging system has been developed and is undergoing validation. The development plan includes implementation, GUI development, laboratory tests, and production line trials over an 18-month period. This structured validation process is aimed at refining the system for potential commercial deployment.
