Versarien's HDPE-graphene composite enhances mechanical performance, enabling thinner, more durable bottles. This innovation leverages graphene's nanoscale properties to reduce polymer use without sacrificing strength, supporting sustainable packaging.

Overview

Versarien's innovative HDPE-graphene composite material is designed to revolutionize the packaging industry by enhancing the mechanical properties and durability of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). By incorporating graphene, known for its exceptional strength and flexibility, the composite allows for the production of thinner-walled bottles without compromising performance. This advancement not only reduces material usage but also contributes to more sustainable packaging solutions.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Enhanced mechanical properties: The inclusion of graphene significantly improves tensile, compressive, and flexural properties of HDPE.
  • Material efficiency: Enables the use of less virgin polymer by producing stronger, thinner bottles.
  • Graphene loading optimization: Various graphene loadings are tested to identify the best formulation for maximum performance.

Development process:

  • WP1: Formulate and test various PE/graphene compounds to optimize performance.
  • WP2: Supply optimized masterbatch to partners for further testing and analysis.
  • WP3: Validate the technology in real-world applications to ensure readiness for market deployment.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 5, this technology has undergone validation in a lab environment and is progressing towards real-world testing. The project's structured work packages aim to refine and demonstrate the composite’s effectiveness in practical scenarios within a six-month timeline.
