Fresh air™ reactive chemistry odor elimination technology

Technology
In development
Company

Fresh Air™ is a novel odor elimination technology using reactive chemistry that permanently neutralizes malodors by reacting with sulfur, amine, and other functional groups. Fast-acting and durable, it outperforms conventional adsorbents and enzymes, with demonstrated 85% reduction in trimethylamine and significant sensory advantages over leading professional odor eliminators.

Overview

Fresh Air™ is a novel odor elimination technology that uses reactive chemistry to permanently neutralize malodors. Unlike conventional adsorbents such as cyclodextrin or activated carbon, which can re-release trapped odor and are consumed quickly, or enzymes, which can be effective but act very slowly, Fresh Air™ employs odorless ingredients that chemically react with sulfur, amine, and other functional groups present in malodor compounds. This reactive approach delivers two key advantages: fast action and permanent elimination.

The technology has been validated through ISO quantitative testing, demonstrating an 85% reduction in trimethylamine over a non-woven substrate one month after application. Third-party sensory testing further confirmed a statistically significant advantage (95% confidence) over a leading professional odor eliminator. Additionally, some ingredients in the formulation have antimicrobial properties, suggesting potential for airborne pathogen reduction.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Reactive chemistry approach: Uses odorless ingredients that chemically react with sulfur, amine, and other functional groups in malodor compounds rather than simply trapping them
  • Permanent odor elimination: Chemical reactions neutralize malodors at the molecular level, preventing re-release
  • Fast-acting performance: Significantly outpaces enzyme-based alternatives in speed of action
  • Durable efficacy: Maintains 85% trimethylamine reduction one month after application
  • Broad-spectrum formulation: Combines multiple reactive ingredients effective against a range of malodor types
  • Antimicrobial potential: Certain formulation ingredients may contribute to airborne pathogen reduction
  • Substrate compatibility: Validated performance on non-woven substrates, relevant for air filtration applications
Technology readiness level

Fresh Air™ has completed initial third-party validation. ISO quantitative testing confirmed 85% trimethylamine reduction on a non-woven substrate, and sensory testing demonstrated statistically significant superiority over a leading competitor product.

Planned next-phase research:

  • Phase I (6 months): Evaluate Fresh Air™ in air filtration applications, with third-party laboratory testing for chemical elimination, pathogen removal, and durability
  • Phase II (12 months, parallel to Phase I): Expand the reactive ingredient portfolio to improve performance across three key parameters

The technology is positioned for advancement into air filtration markets with ongoing validation to confirm pathogen elimination capabilities and long-term durability.
