Company

Innovative diazirine-based compounds enable high-resolution photopatterning of polyimides, facilitating advanced microfabrication and electronics applications. These compounds create strong covalent bonds upon UV exposure, achieving pattern resolutions as fine as 3 um.

Overview

XLYNX Materials Inc. presents advanced diazirine-based compounds designed for the covalent photopatterning of polyimides. These compounds promise a significant leap forward in microfabrication and electronics applications by enabling high-resolution designs on polyimide coatings. The diazirine groups undergo a photochemical reaction under UV light, releasing nitrogen gas and forming reactive carbenes. These carbenes facilitate the creation of strong covalent bonds, allowing precise patterning capabilities.

Technical specifications
  • Diazirine Activation: Activated by UV light at 365 nm (i-line), resulting in the release of nitrogen gas and formation of reactive carbenes.
  • Photopatterning Resolution: Achieves pattern resolutions as fine as 3 um, with demonstrated photopatternability below 5 um.
  • Polyimide Compatibility: Fully soluble in PGMEA and does not interfere with dielectric properties.
  • High Heat Resistance: Evaluated for high heat resistance, suitable for final product applications.
  • Applications: Ideal for microfabrication, electronics, and semiconductor industries.
Technology readiness level

The technology is currently at TRL 3, with proof-of-concept experiments underway to demonstrate the photopatternability of polyimide resins. Initial tests focus on insertion capabilities and will include DSC and peel tests to validate performance. Collaboration opportunities are available for further development and testing phases.

About XLYNX Materials Inc.

XLYNX Materials is a specialty chemtech company that develops and manufactures advanced diazirine-based crosslinking reagents for industrial applications. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Victoria, BC, the company’s core technology originated from research pioneered at the University of Victoria. Their product portfolio features two primary lines: BondLynx, a molecular crosslinking adhesive designed for curing and photopatterning low-loss resins, and PlastiLynx, a polymeric primer used to improve the bonding, stability, and functionalization of polyolefins and other materials. These innovations rely on proprietary covalent bonding strategies that enable manufacturers to work with difficult-to-bond polymers.

These advanced materials are critical for customers in sectors such as microelectronics, semiconductor packaging, quantum dot patterning, and the development of next-generation perovskite solar cells. By solving complex adhesion and surface modification challenges, XLYNX enables the creation of high-performance materials with enhanced durability and functionality. The company, which is backed by institutional investment, collaborates with dozens of industry partners to integrate these reagents into high-reliability manufacturing processes, aiming to advance technologies in artificial intelligence hardware and consumer device production.
