Development of short chain fatty acid based therapeutics targeting chronic inflammatory diseases (cancer, autoimmunity, neurodegeneration)

We have developed short chain fatty acid (SCFA) formulations that have successfully targeted chronic inflammatory conditions by epigenetic mechanisms that restore homeostasis and health by immunomodulation instead of immunosuppression. This is a novel approach to drug development. In multiple preclinical and clinical applications, a high degree of efficacy has been proven without any adverse effects. In preclinical models, we have shown that this approach prevents the progression of chronic liver disease to fibrosis (in MASH) and liver cancer (triggered by HBV). Over 20other tumor types develop on a background of chronic inflammation, so this approach has a high likelihood of being applicable elsewhere. In the clinic, we have completed a Phase 1 trial in patients with psoriasis. Every single patient showed improvement within weeks of treatment, and in some cases, psoriasis cleared completely. Compassionate use trials targeting other chronic inflammatory conditions have shown positive results. This work is backed by 19 issued patents (both domestic and foreign) covering use, composition of matter, and most recently, new chemical entity (NCE) licensed from Temple University exclusively to SFA Therapeutics. We are now raising money for a Phase 2 clinical trial in psoriasis to provide Phase 3 ready data for big pharma. Several strategic partners have already shown interest once we have Phase 2 data. We are also raising funds to perform proof-of-principal preclinical work to expand this platform approach to other chronic inflammatory diseases. This is a simple, orally administered, safe therapeutic approach that works by targeting multiple inflammatory and fibrotic pathways in a variety of disease types, which is why it is so important. This addresses multiple unmet medical needs and can easily be distributed for use in developing countries.

About SFA Therapeutics

SFA Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. The company utilizes a proprietary deuteration platform to develop oral, small-molecule biosynthetic compounds derived from short-chain fatty acids. Its core technology is designed to reset the immune system by modulating inflammatory factors through the gut-immune axis, specifically targeting the differentiation of T-regulatory (Treg) cells. By creating patentable new chemical entities, SFA aims to provide therapeutic solutions for chronic inflammatory, autoimmune, and oncological conditions. The company’s pipeline includes nine drug candidates, with its lead asset, SFA-002, currently being evaluated for the treatment of psoriasis.

This technology addresses significant unmet needs in markets such as psoriasis, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and various cancers, offering a potential alternative to treatments that rely on chronic immune suppression. SFA Therapeutics has demonstrated early clinical proof-of-concept through positive Phase 1b trial data for SFA-002, which showed significant efficacy and a clean safety profile. Supported by an extensive intellectual property portfolio comprising granted and pending patents, the company is actively advancing its pipeline toward Phase 2 clinical trials and seeking strategic partnerships to accelerate the development and commercialization of its immunomodulatory therapeutics.
