Introducing a revolutionary bioplastic wood-based composite designed to enhance strength, durability, and eco-friendliness in construction. Utilizing modified cellulose and bioplasticizers, this composite offers a sustainable alternative to traditional materials.

Overview

The bioplastic wood-based composite building blocks offer a sustainable and resilient alternative for the construction industry. By integrating bioplastics within wood-based composite matrices, this solution aims to revolutionize building materials by enhancing strength and durability while significantly reducing environmental footprints. This innovative approach utilizes sawdust or ground wood waste in combination with biodegradable bioplastics, providing a greener pathway for construction practices that align with eco-friendly initiatives.

Technical specifications

The core of this technology lies in the modification of wood cellulose, where sodium chloroacetate and alkali are used to disrupt intramolecular hydrogen bonds through etherification. This modification allows for improved dissolution and crosslinking with vinyl monomers, enhancing water resistance and strength. The composite is synthesized via a reactive extrusion process, mixing cellulosic bioplastics with wood particles, then pressing them at 1650 C and 40 bar to form durable building blocks. The process is designed to optimize the mixing ratio for maximum efficacy, with comparisons made to traditional polypropylene composites.

Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 3, this bioplastic wood-based composite has undergone initial validation phases, including laboratory synthesis and preliminary testing. The next steps involve further optimization and comparison with conventional composites to validate its performance and scalability in real-world applications.
