Biodegradable microencapsulation for nutrient delivery and shelf life extension

Overview

IamFluidics has developed an innovative microencapsulation technology utilizing biodegradable bi-gel capsules. These capsules are designed to improve the solubility and stability of water-soluble and hydrophobic nutrients, ensuring effective delivery past the stomach. The solution is particularly beneficial for delivering a broad range of vitamins, minerals, and supplements, enhancing their bioavailability and shelf life.

Technical specifications

Our microencapsulation platform combines oleogel and hydrogel matrices to protect contents from oxygen, acid, and water, providing a robust solution for nutrient delivery. The capsules are available in both wet slurry and dry powder formats, with demonstrated success in creating water-dispersible tablets. Currently, production is feasible up to 50 kg/day using the IN-AIR MICROFLUIDICS pilot plant, with potential for further scale-up. Notably, the technology has proven effective in enhancing the solubility of hydrophobic compounds like curcumin and improving the stability of antioxidants and probiotics.

Technology readiness level

The technology is at TRL 5-6, with successful pilot-scale production and proof of concept for enhanced solubility and shelf life. Future validation will proceed through a phased approach, focusing on feasibility, formulation development, and process optimization for long-term stability.
