Exploring bioactive compounds from native Brazilian fruits to develop obesity therapies through in silico, in vitro, and clinical trials. Targeting obesity with nutraceutical and functional products derived from biodiversity.

Overview

This research focuses on utilizing the rich biodiversity of Brazilian fruits to combat obesity. By identifying bioactive compounds in fruits like jabuticaba, araticum, and passion fruit, the project aims to develop nutraceutical products that leverage antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to prevent obesity. This approach not only taps into the nutritional potential of these fruits but also contributes to public health improvement and environmental conservation.

Technical specifications
  • Characterization of Nutritional Profile: Analysis of major bioactive compounds in Brazilian fruit by-products.
  • Molecular Modeling: In silico screening to identify compounds affecting obesity signaling pathways.
  • Bioaccessibility Evaluation: In vitro digestion studies to assess bioactive compound absorption and metabolism.
  • Animal Models: Testing physiological effects on obesity through high-fat diet induced models.
  • Clinical Trials: Randomized controlled trials to evaluate the impact of fruit by-products on obese volunteers, including biochemical and molecular analyses.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 3, this research involves active R&D with experimental proof of concept established through initial in silico and in vitro studies, progressing towards further validation in animal models and clinical trials.
