This solution automates the design of PET containers by using a deep neural network for manufacturability evaluation, predicting preform geometry and process parameters to enhance production efficiency and performance.

Overview

The automated co-design system leverages advanced deep learning techniques to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of PET container production. By automating the evaluation of manufacturability, this technology allows designers to focus on optimizing container geometry and performance. The deep neural network model predicts essential preform geometries and process parameters such as stretching rates, heating temperatures, and blow pressures, ensuring successful production of containers with desired properties like stiffness and buckling strength.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Uses a deep neural network with autoencoding for manufacturability evaluation.
  • Trained on past successful container designs and simulated data of unsuccessful designs via FEA.
  • Predicts preform geometry and process parameters, reducing iterative design cycles.
  • Integrates with generative design frameworks for full automation.

Development Phases:

  • Phase I: Focuses on developing and validating the neural network model.
  • Phase II: Integrates the model with numerical optimization and includes CAD export capability.
Technology readiness level

The technology is currently at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated in a laboratory setting. Future validation includes integration with numerical optimization and practical demonstration in Phase II.

About Comnext, Inc (acquired by Zionex and became Zionex Japan in 2013)

Comnext, Inc. was established in 2007 as a joint venture between Zionex and the Japanese company Comtec to provide production scheduling solutions and open-source enterprise applications to clients in Japan. The company operated as a vehicle for delivering Zionex's supply chain management (SCM) expertise and T3Series software solutions within the Japanese market.

In 2013, the joint venture concluded when Comtec withdrew and sold its remaining shares of Comnext to Zionex. Following this acquisition, Comnext was renamed Zionex Japan (ザイオネックス株式会社) and became a subsidiary of the Korea-based Zionex, Inc. Today, Zionex Japan continues to specialize in manufacturing IT consulting, as well as the development and sales of SCM and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems like PlanNEL and Dynamic Task Manager for the Japanese market.
