Offline ai for audio transcription for training and simulation in restricted environments

Training and simulation exercises generate a high volume of operationally relevant discussion, including decisions, state updates and coordination between participants. At present, these interactions are typically recorded and then require time consuming analyse to reconstruct events after the exercise. Analysts may spend hours replaying audio to extract a handful of key decisions. This system instead produces those decisions as a structured event timeline during or immediately after the exercise. The system can operate in real-time, allowing structured events to be captured during the exercise as it unfolds, not just reconstructed afterwards. The system approach differs from conventional transcription or AI summarisation tools in that it does not focus on producing or interpreting raw text. It captures spoken interaction as a structured event timeline aligned to operational activity. Analysts do not need to reconstruct events from transcripts or recordings as the system produces a directly usable and auditable representation of decisions, actions and state changes, each linked to the source audio for verification. Using deterministic rules aligned to operational language to provide consistent and explainable outputs grounds our approach in the structured nature of training and simulation communication. This avoids the variability and loss of auditability associated with generative summarisation outputs. The system is designed to operate in constrained environments, with full offline capability and minimal integration overhead, allowing it to be deployed alongside existing training and simulation and analysis workflows without disruption. The result is not simply improved transcription, but a shift from post-exercise reconstruction to immediate, structured capture of operational activity.

Core Features Extraction & Identification of key operational events, including:

  • Decisions and directives. Objective status updates.
  • Phase transitions.
  • Unit or asset state changes.

Timeline Reconstruction.

  • Generation of a chronological sequence of events representing the progression of the exercise.

Event Verification

  • Each event is directly linked to its originating audio segment, allowing analysts to verify context quickly.

Filtering and Querying

  • Ability to isolate specific event types, actors or time windows for targeted analysis.

Bespoke Configurations.

  • Rules and patterns can be adapted to different training and simulation formats, domains or terminology.

System Architecture: Event attribution is derived from multiple complementary signals. Each audio input is treated as a distinct channel, allowing events to be associated with specific rooms, teams or cells. Where operational language explicitly identifies units or roles, these are extracted and associated with the event, providing actor-level context aligned to the exercise structure. Overlapping or closely spaced dialogue is handled by preserving multiple concurrent events. This reflects the reality of training and simulation comms, where concurrent or conflicting statements may occur. This approach ensures interactions are captured in full, supporting later analysis while maintaining traceability to the source audio.

The system is designed to operate in near real-time, structured events are expected to appear within approximately 5–30seconds of being spoken All system components are designed to run on local air-gapped environments with no access external services.
