A novel mixture of essential amino acids and sulforaphane designed to enhance muscle growth and repair in older adults, addressing sarcopenia by stimulating muscle protein synthesis and balancing oxidative stress.

Overview

This innovative solution combines essential amino acids (EAAs) with sulforaphane (SFN) to address sarcopenia in older adults by enhancing muscle growth and repair. Sarcopenia, characterized by reduced muscle protein synthesis and increased oxidative stress, significantly affects the quality of life in aging populations. EAAs are crucial for stimulating muscle protein synthesis, while SFN, an antioxidant from cruciferous vegetables, regulates mitochondrial genes associated with muscle mass. This combination provides a novel mechanism to improve muscle function and counteract oxidative imbalances.

Technical specifications

The formulation includes 10g of EAAs and 20g of SFN, combined with 10g of maltodextrin for ease of mixing. This mix is designed to be consumed daily with water, offering high digestibility and no impact on taste or texture. The SFN component upregulates signaling pathways for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and mitochondrial functions, while EAAs drive muscle protein synthesis. Together, they provide a comprehensive approach to muscle maintenance and growth in older adults.

Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, this solution has undergone initial development and testing phases, including studies demonstrating its potential benefits on muscle mass and function. Future validation includes a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to further assess efficacy and safety in older adults.
