A comprehensive study on the deformation and stiffness changes of absorbent materials using 3D modeling and experimental validation to improve product fit in the pelvic region.

Overview

This project focuses on the study of absorbent materials and their deformation properties, particularly when exposed to moisture. By examining how these materials expand and change stiffness, the research aims to improve the fit and comfort of absorbent products used in the pelvic region. This is crucial for enhancing user comfort and product efficiency.

Technical specifications
  • 3D Deformation Analysis: Utilizes digital image correlation (DIC) to observe material deformation under static and dynamic loads.
  • Material Testing: Employs a universal testing machine (UTM) to measure stress and strain in various scenarios, including the use of superabsorbent polymers (SAP).
  • 3D Modeling: Incorporates 3D printing and scanning to create accurate models of the pelvic region for testing.
  • Numerical Models: Validates cellular and granular lattice-based models with experimental data to predict material behavior.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated through laboratory experiments and is entering the development phase towards real-world applications.
