My research focuses on skin and gut biology, inflammation, oxidative stress, and epithelial barrier integrity, with a sustained emphasis on the chemopreventive and therapeutic properties of rooibos and honeybush extracts. Projects investigate UVB-induced skin inflammation, modulation of epithelial integrity, inflammatory pathways, and multi-omics analyses, highlighting rooibos’s potential to reduce inflammation, restore barriers, improve bioavailability, and act as a natural, multifunctional agent for promoting skin and gut health and overall epithelial resilience.
