Opera Bioscience engineers microbial hosts to secrete recombinant proteins directly into media, enabling high-throughput screening and simplified scale-up. Secretion improves solubility, avoids inclusion bodies, and enables expression of proteins that are otherwise toxic to cells. By eliminating cell lysis and reducing downstream purification, partners can often use proteins directly from media and lower production costs by removing unit operations. We’ve achieved up to 90% purity (protein dependent) with functional activity across targets, and have secreted a wide variety of protein classes including enzymes, peptides, antibody fragments, growth factors, and others. We typically see titers similar to intracellular E. coli expression. Performance has been validated in 250 mL bioreactors.
